Small Town. Big Heart.
Avon is located in Bon Homme County, South Dakota. We are comfortably located between several small to medium sized cities and well within comfortable driving range to one of South Dakota’s major metropolitan centers. We offer an excellent place for family growth including an outstanding school that is large enough to include mainstream subjects but small enough that individual attention can still be given to any student. We have a wide variety of sports here and you will find that the entire city goes all out to support each team, no matter how far they have to travel or how many times. Or, if your family prefers a calmer pace, we offer the Avon Public Library, the Avon Kid’s Club, and the Avon City Park. No wonder they call us “The Small Town With The Big Heart”.
2019 CITY WIDE CLEAN-UP HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED! | MONDAY, APRIL 29 TO FRIDAY, MAY 3
We ask that you have items out early in the week.
The City of Avon has set Clean-up week and has arranged to pick up debris and waste materials as a community gesture on the following schedule:
April 29 and 30 the City will pick up tree branches, wood products and grass clippings.
May 2 and until noon on May 3 the City will pick up appliances free of FREON, scrap metal and large furniture items.
For your convenience the city will open the dump on April 12th. The areas are marked to pile white goods, metal and furniture. We ask for everyone’s cooperation in placing things in the correct area. If the dump is abused the gate will be locked, so please take the time to put items in the correct piles. As always discard burnable items (tree branches and non-painted wood) into the pit and yard waste into the compost pile.
The City will NOT pick up and is NOT permitted to take plastic, paper, household garbage, books, TV’s, VCR, computers, canned goods, chemicals, paint, or tires; these are items the garbage hauler picks up and you should discard of these items with your regular garbage.
Items must be sorted & kept in separate piles (ex. leaves in a pile, branches in a pile, furniture in a pile, etc.). ITEMS SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE ALLEY. If items are not sorted into piles the City will not pick up any of the items.
If you have any questions regarding what items can be discarded, please call and leave a message at either of the following city numbers: City Office- 286-3694 or the City Shop- 286-3747.
